2010 Olympics Day 14 – ALO and Galactic live on Stage

March 15, 2010
Thumbnail image for 2010 Olympics Day 14 – ALO and Galactic live on Stage

On the 14th day of the Olympics I was able to enjoy and capture some photographs of two American bands including Galactic and Animal Liberation Orchestra (ALO).

Galactic was the first group to hit the stage today and they performed a great Jazzy, funk show with a rich assortment of instruments from hip hop, electronic and blues mixed into the bunch.

ALO was the next band to hit the stage here in Whistler after Galactic finished their set. ALO stands for Animal Liberation Orchestra evolved into a nine piece ensemble drawing a lot of attention in the Santa Barbara area with their energetic stage shows; which is no surprise from the performance they put on here in Whistler.

2010 Olympics Day 13 – Gorky Park live in Whistler

March 11, 2010
Gorky Park

Today day 13 of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics in Whistler was a slow day for live shows on the Village Square stage but it was a nice change from the live acts we had been seeing the last couple days. Gorky Park was the lead band on the stage today with an awesome rock show.

Gorky Park is a Rock band from Russia who started way back in 1987. At the time there was a lot of tension between Russia and the United States which made it a difficult time to break into the music industry in Russia, but some turn of events in the 80′s helped them brake it big.

The group consists of guitarist Alexey Belov, vocalist Nikolay Noskov, bassist Alexander “Big Sasha” Minkov, guitarist Jan Ianenkov, and drummer Alexander Lvov came together to form Gorky Park.

2010 Olympics Day 12 – Damian Marley, The Fray, Victory Ceremony

March 10, 2010
The Fray

Another beautiful day at the Olympics here in Whistler started with the first and only live act on the Whistler Village Square stage which was the one and only Damian Marley. The crowd that formed before Damian Marley hit the stage was as big as or bigger than the crowd that the Barenaked Ladies generated (which was a massive crowd on its own). It was amazing to see how much enthusiasm that the fans had who came to see Damian, the cheering was amazing to hear and I am glad I was able to be apart of it.

After the Victory Ceremonies at the Medals Plaza in Whistler everyone was able to enjoy a live performance from the American four-piece piano-rock band The Fray.

February 28, 2010

Day 10 of the Olympics here in Whistler started off a bit slower than most with only one band playing on the village square stage compared to the average of 3 per day, but the Sam Roberts Band totally made up for it.
