2010 Olympics Day 15 – 4 Man Bobsleigh

by Nick Vail on March 30, 2010

On the 15th day of the 2010 Olympics I was able to attend my first Olympic Sporting event with my friend Lisa and it was a great vibe the whole crowd had from the average joe to one dude who made the news with his body painted with the United State flag and another dude holding a large dry erase board with a new hilarious remark written on it every 10 minutes.

When we first showed up to the event everyone was pretty excited (even though it was pouring rain) to see the bobsleigh’s rip around the big corners at extreme speeds. One of the first bobsled runs we saw was a replay of a team who had tipped their sled a few turns before the big corner at the bottom of the track.

It was pretty scary to watch the replay after hearing about the  Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili who died from crash at the start of the Olympics.

To my surprise several bobsleigh’s had tipped over during the first 2 heats that we saw that day. Starting with Korea, then Great Brittan and one of the two United States bobsleigh teams.

Besides having to watching those team tipping their sleighs over in the exact same turns and have to endure watching them come threw the huge bottom corner of the ice track upside down; it was a pretty amazing event to see.

In the finals of the 4 Man Bobsleigh the United States team dominated with 1st place and several new track records. The American four man bobsled team became the first US 4 man team to win an Olympic gold for the first time in 62 years. Following the United States team was Germany in second place and Canada bringing home the Bronze medal in this event.

I’m glad I was able to attend at least one Olympic sporting event at the 2010 Olympics especially one with a lot of high speed action and excitement as the Bobsleigh event.
