So the Olympics have officially started here in Whistler.
Day 1 had many treats in store for people in Whistler Village, including a broadcasting of the Olympic Ski Jumping Qualification on all of the Whistler Live Screens scattered all over the village for people to watch. You can check out the results on Whistler 2010′s website.
Along with many broadcasting of different interviews with different Musicians (the Hair Farmers) and other Ski and Snowboard Athletes on the Whistler Live big screen’s there was also Live art being performed in the Town Plaza.
Today’s live artist was a good friend Stan Matwychuk who is a Whistler local artist who was doing a collaboration mural with anyone who wanted to paint, he was talking with people and helping young kids paint freely on the large canvas they had provided. These group collaboration murals will be displayed at different locations throughout Whistler.

Later on in the after noon I was able to catch the Hair Farmers on stage in the Village square which was a treat since I’ve heard a lot about them and haven’t really seen them live before.
The Hair Farmers are a local Whistler band originated in the 1999-2000 Winter season in Whistler they have created their own Ski bum style which includes everything from Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Cash, U2, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson and everything in between from Rock, reggae to blue grass and folk you name it, with their play list of around 3000 songs they could perform any song you yell out.

The Hair Farmers have been voted Whistler favorite band every year since 2004 and will be playing every day during the Olympics at Merlins Bar and Grill here in Whistler. So if your in the neighborhood treat yourself to a beer at Merlins and you’ll be able to listening to the excellent play list they have to offer.
