Sledding Rainbow Mountain Whistler

by Nick Vail on January 20, 2010

2007/2008 was my first Winter season in Whistler and I was pretty stoked to spend a season riding a real mountain with the most ski able terrain in North America. Which is a big leap from my home mountain Martock back in Nova Scotia.

One of my good friends I was living with who was from Switzerland was determined to buy a sled for his season in Whistler. He was determined to buy a sled because there is no sledding aloud in Switzerland so he wanted to experience it while he had a chance (plus he could brag about it back home).

So one of our first adventures into the Alpine of Rainbow mountain I brought along two of my digital cameras at the time I was using a Canon 40d and a Canada G9 which we ended up using both with great results.

The first day that Simon and I made it threw all the single track on Rainbow Mountain and into the real back country we ran into some other sledders breaking trail into the alpine. This was both of our first year sledding so we didn’t really have the skills to break trail threw some light powder into the alpine so we decided to stay in the tree’s and shred some nice glade runs.

I was able to shoot a nice photo of Simon carving threw the trees and slicing some nice pow. The photo was taken with my Canon G9 which produced some relatively great results for action shots.
