Whistler Crankworx 2009

by Nick Vail on September 11, 2009

Back in August I was able to get out there and enjoy the Whistler Crankworx Slope Style event. I picked up a pass earlier in the week of the event but my summer’s been very busy and I only had the chance to take photo’s during the biggest event during the 2009 Crankworx the Monster energy slope style.

When I got off work the day of the slope style I headed right up to the event. At the time the first qualifiers had already started so I had to climb the mountain to find the best spot to catch some action and scramble to set up my gear before the next rider dropped in.

Once I met up with my friend Jussi Grznar at the top jump of the event I pulled out all my flashes so I could start catching some action with my camera.

As soon as my gear was set up I just started snapping away with all the riders sailing down the mountain pulling insanely technical tricks with style and finesse.

I spent most of my time during the event shooting the top jump which provided a lot of action and some huge tricks, but when it came time for the Super Finals I helped Jussi carry his huge Elinchrom Ranger strobes down to the base of the mountain to where the last just was the Kokanee Whale Tale.

When we got to the bottom it was just in time to catch the last runs of the night and to see Greg Watts pull of the win with home town boy Brandon Semenuk in second and Martin Soederstrom in 3rd. It was a great event and I can’t wait to see the action next year!
